Mr. Stripey

Rich said he wanted to make the salad for supper last night.

He had picked baby, tender lettuce leaves from plants he seeded out after we got back from Hawaii.  Because the temperatures have been so moderate the lettuce is doing well.

Then he cut up an heirloom tomato called Mr. Stripey.  It is supposed to be a yellow tomato with red stripes.

That's not what this one looked like.  To me it looked like a yellow tomato with red blood  veins.  It looked almost repulsive but it has a delicious taste.

Richard dressed the salad with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, both very special, since they were brought back from Italy the last time he was there.

Here is a picture of some irregularly shaped chunks which were leftover after he had made admittedly more attractive looking slices.  Of course I didn't get a picture of the nicer looking slices.

The tomato probably was very tasty being fresh from the garden but it does look a bit weird. I believe I'd prefer one solid color. The saying "you eat with your eyes" is true.
