Problem solved!

To get the Christmas tree out of the house I decided to prune it!

I dug out the pruning saw, lopping shears, and  pruning shears and went to it.

I placed the cut-off branches and the shortened trunk of the tree on an old bedspread.

Then I wrapped everything up, carried it out of the house, and marched through the snow into the backyard, dragging the bundle across the snow.  When the snow became too deep to go any farther, I dumped the contents, and shook out the bedspread.

The only needles which had to be cleaned up were where the pruning took place.

All in all, it wasn't too bad a job.

You beat me to it! I was just going to your blog and suggest you get the saw out. Don't think it'd make good firewood, however. Glad your problem was solved. You could also grind it up now for mulch for your garden in the Spring.
