Apple Time

Fall brings a lot of apples around here.  Our favorite source for apples, though, is the Kickapoo Valley, about 3 1/2 to 4 hours' drive from here.

The apples from there taste especially good, I think.  Plus the drive west of Madison is so very scenic.  Some people might think that's not an economical way to obtain apples, BUT there's so much more to it than the price.

Plus,  you can buy a freshly baked apple pie made by one of the local Amish women.  This is Amish country!

We stopped at a small cafe in the Ozarks one time where we saw a lot of cars and trucks, thinking they must know a secret. Surrounding the cafe were acres of apple trees and fresh homemade pies were being served. The pies came straight from the oven, hot, dripping with juice. Wonderful. I wonder if the cafe or the orchards are still there.
