Window Math

Hooray, I've finally finished washing the windows in the main part of the house.  (I still have garage and basement windows to attack--and they are really filthy--but my goal for the week was the main part.)

There are twenty double-hung windows with storm windows, five Pella windows, two Pella French doors, three storm doors, three glass brick windows, and one picture window.  That's 188 sides of glass.  And all the storm windows had to be removed from their frames and replaced again, plus all the metal tracks needed to be cleaned.

Now I just (!) have to finish washing, ironing, and hanging curtains in three bedrooms and a bathroom, plus thoroughly cleaning mini-blinds in two rooms.

No wonder I only do this once a year.

It would be really nice to have Pella windows throughout.  They are so much easier to clean and they are much more energy efficient.  But I'm afraid we'd have to win the lottery to replace them all.  And we don't play the lottery.

That's a lotta work!! Did you have any help? Know it feels good to have the job accomplished.

No, on the help angle.

What's your method for cleaning the windows and tracks? It's an awful project and I'm always in the mood for examining new ways of doing things.

I've gotten lots of tips (and products) from Jeff Campbell's Speed Cleaning methods. For the glass I use "blue juice" and a squeegee or a lint-free cleaning cloth. For the tracks (after vacuuming them) I use "red juice" and a toothbrush. You might check out the Speed Cleaning books, I have found them valuable.
