When we re-did the kitchen four years ago we replaced our old dining room table with a new one. Both tables were/are nice, but neither was a standard length and width. The newer table is narrower and longer (in its unextended state) than the previous one.
Over the prior thirty years I had collected quite a few different tablecloths. Cloths which fit the table without an inserted leaf, cloths to fit the table with one or with two leaves inserted. Some of cloths still fit OK. Others just won't work: they're mostly either too long or too short.
I started this project about three years ago. Since the cloths were all in good shape I thought I would cut them up to make place mats rather than giving them away and purchasing more cloths or mats.
This is no small job. Why hasn't it been completed in the intervening four years? I'll just let you imagine the reasons for procrastinating.

I suspect jobs like this took back seat to the press of more important duties .... like teaching school!
