A couple of years ago I resolved I would try to stop so much junk mail from coming to our address. By methodically requesting catalog senders (and keeping a record of the ones I had contacted) remove me from their lists, I have managed to eliminate virtually all unwanted catalogs.
I also did the same with telephone calls: I registered (and re-registered) on Do Not Call lists, both nationally and state-wide. That eliminated pretty much all calls except for non-profit organizations.
I have specific organizations I contribute to on a regular basis and so when I receive calls from charities I ask them to put me on a Do Not Call list. That has worked pretty well, too. Again I keep a list of who I've asked to stop calling me.
But there is one for-profit company, Card Services, which has repeatedly called and continues even today. They want to help me lower my credit card rate. That's not really a problem because I always pay the bill in full each time so I don't pay interest.
I have asked to be put on a no-call list. I have been told that because I have a credit card that constitutes a business relationship with them. Huh?
So when I received a call from the same people on my cell phone, I checked my list. I had recorded ten times they have called me over the past year and a half (not very often, but annoying nonetheless because I have asked them to stop). Since I had the dates and the numbers (from caller ID) I filed a complaint with the FCC.
I have received acknowledgement from the FCC via postal mail that they have received it.
Wonder what will happen next?

You can do as I do - check Caller ID and if you don't recognize the number or name, don't bother to pick up the phone. Or wait until the caller starts to leave a message and if you're interested in talking, answer the phone then when you know who it is. I've put our name on the do not call list so many times I've lost track. Simpler to just ignore the phone rings most times.
What a pain!
I've been battling the phone companies to get our names off the directory distribution list.
