Bathroom Remodel: Day One

I wondered how much of a mess there would be from removing all the wallboard, bathroom fixtures, tile, etc. from the old bathroom.  It turns out that there is a lot less than I expected. With the exception of some things like the tub, toilet, and sinks, John, our contractor, was able to toss the stuff from the window into a waiting trailer parked below the window.

When I looked into the bathroom after he had removed a lot of the dry wall, I saw the pipe between the toilet and the shower area which previously had been hidden by a wall.  The plan is to rebuild the wall only about 40" high so that the space looks more open.  "Oh, no, I thought.  What's going to happen now?  There's that ugly pipe."

John had gone home for lunch so I couldn't ask him about it.  I began imagining, and worrying, that our whole design was going to go down the tubes, e ..r..r.. pipe.

When he returned from lunch his response to my query was,  "Oh, yeah.  I figured there probably was something in the wall because it was so thick.  No problem.  The plumber will cut the pipe, reroute it with PVC into the back wall, reroute it in the attic to the exit in the roof.  It'll be OK."

Good thing I'm not the one doing the construction.  Chances are I would be quitting before I really got started.
